Welcome by the Ambassador
Dear Swiss citizens, dear friends and guests,
Switzerland works with partners in the three countries to promote sustainable and climate-smart development, solid economic relations, trade and investment, as well as cooperation in science, education and culture.
In Zimbabwe, our cooperation focuses on reducing poverty and vulnerability, strengthening food production systems, improving access to comprehensive health services, supporting local governance and creating economic opportunities, mainly for young people, women and small and medium-sized enterprises. Switzerland has also provided rapid support in response to humanitarian crisis, such as drought or cholera outbreaks. In addition, Switzerland supports dialogue and the promotion of human rights, contributing to the development of a more inclusive and resilient society.
In Zambia, Switzerland has been a long-standing partner, with cooperation focusing, among other areas, on food security, comprehensive health services and social protection. Our bilateral development cooperation is being gradually reoriented towards economic and institutional cooperation, while Switzerland remains committed to strong bilateral diplomatic relations with Zambia.
In Malawi, Switzerland maintains close and longstanding relations and continues to engage through a range of bilateral, multilateral and thematic channels. Our cooperation focuses on areas of mutual interest like climate action. Switzerland also remains committed to maintaining a constructive dialogue with the Malawian authorities and partners on issues of shared concern.
Here in Harare, I am working at the Embassy with a dedicated team, the majority of whom are Zimbabwean. Their knowledge, experience and commitment are invaluable to our work. In Malawi, Switzerland is represented by Honorary Consul Sylvia Giannakis, while in Zambia, Honorary Consul Angelika Huwiler Andersen represents Switzerland.
More than 160 Swiss citizens living in Zimbabwe, more than 80 in Zambia and more than 20 in Malawi, form an important bridge between our countries. The Embassy serves as a service center for the Swiss community and for Swiss travelers. While our Regional Consular Centre is located in Pretoria, the Embassy remains the first point of contact for Swiss nationals in Zimbabwe.
